A major storm

Yesterday afternoon our area of Brisbane got smashed by a major storm! I've never experienced anything like it in my life! Our rain gauge recorded 76 mm in about half and hour or so! And to top that off there were about 3500 lightening strikes recorded and major winds!!

We had windows flying open on in all the bedrooms and rain pouring in them. They wouldn't stay shut so I was standing there holding them shut while Paul ran around finding things to tie the windows together so they'd hopefully stay shut. Then we went into the back spare room and the curtains were blotchy. I pulled back the curtain and was hit by heaps of water. The rain was literally pouring in through the top of the windows even though they were fully closed!! So we were madly moving all of our storage to the other side of the room out of the way of the rain. I tried holding a towel up to the water pouring in for a bit, but that was pointless as the towel was soon soaked. So there was nothing we could do but put down some towels on the floor and mop it up afterwards.

Further down our street it got all flooded out! I'm glad that we're up higher! Apparently the area that flooded used to be a creek back in the day. The lady on the pother side of the road from us has lived there for about 55 years - so she'd know :-)

This photo (with the car) got on the front page of the Brisbane Times website with my name and everything - I'm famous!!
The power was out all night - so we were using candles for light :-)
Fortunately we have gas so we could still cook dinner

Awesome pics - makes the old Welly winter weather seem pretty tame!
